“All my life I struggled with my weight…yawn…Zzzz”
Just about every single weight loss book starts off with that statement, doesn’t it? For some reason, this statement acts as a qualifier for that person to share their “diet plan” or “work out regimen” that got them thin. It makes sense to want to learn what they did, copy it, and be successful with your weight loss, too. When I take a deeper look into that situation, I can see why you–and just about everyone else ahead of you and behind you–have failed to lose the weight that you want. I can see why you might have actually lost weight and started to see results, but you’ve fallen back into your old habits, regained the weight, got frustrated, and ripped up that latest diet book. Or used the pages for TP. Or perhaps ate the book, because it almost made you STARVE to death.
I tell the story of my struggle and how I came up with the Half Meal Habit plan here
It’s also not about WHAT I ate! I remember in high school, driving to Burger King, ordering two Double Whoppers (Yes, TWO!), a large fries, and a large vanilla shake. I’m pretty sure I ate it all! Of course, I didn’t eat like that all the time. I ate like I’m about to teach you, which is why I was able and still am able to stay at the same weight and stay thin. I used to be a fast food junkie and I still am, in some ways. I love Big Macs, Taco Bell, and especially Hardee’s Mushroom N’ Swiss Thickburgers! Oh, man, I can’t get them in California now, so I had to learn how to make my own. Again, I don’t eat that crap (yes, I admit, it is crap) all the time, but I will occasionally tuck into a fattening fast food meal. I don’t starve myself nor do I stick to veggies and water. I eat. I LOVE to eat! Food is simply Da Bomb! I’m sure you feel the same way.
My big discovery came to me over the past year or so, looking at my eating habits, watching my friends eating habits (both thin and fat), and paying close attention to their and my specific food actions. I figured out what the fat ones were doing wrong and what the thin ones were doing right. Some skinnies were simply restricting themselves, avoiding anything “fattening” while pining for the same. I have some bad news for them: This is not the right way to lose weight. Their day of reckoning is coming! I also saw what the overweight folk were doing, such as filling their plates to the hilt, going in for seconds, snacking all the way up until dinner, etc.
I could go on and on about what people say you can’t do if you want to lose weight. The truth is, they are all wrong! Yes, you can follow the Atkins diet and lose weight. You can exercise 60 to 90 minutes a day, 4 to 5 days a week and lose weight. You can even get the lap band…but you don’t need to. You don’t have to do any of those things! You don’t have to cook a meal without butter. You don’t need to count calories or keep a food journal. You don’t have to listen to the carb police as they scream: “PUT THE SLICE OF WHITE BREAD DOWN AND SLOWLY BACK AWAY!”
Of course, those things listed can help you drop some pounds. Here’s the thing: Can you eat pure protein for the next 30 to 50 YEARS of your life and be happy? Can you avoid white carbs like the plague until you’re 90 years old? Do you and will you ALWAYS have the time to workout for an hour a day, 5 days a week? Obviously, the answer to all of these is a resounding no. And that’s when I realized that all these crazy, albeit sometimes effective, diets are all set up to fail. Why? Because they are unrealistic and unsustainable for the long haul.
Look, there’s no way I’m going to cook a steak for my personal dinner and a pasta dish for the rest of my family. Eventually, I will get overwhelmed with work and not have time to get in my 75 minute P90X workout for a few days, or maybe even an entire week. And I am NOT getting the lap band! People have tried, over and over again, to lose weight following some nontraditional diet; one that goes way to the right or left of center of normal food, like sandwiches and hot dogs. One that restricts, one that specifies, one that puts you to work, or one that costs $400 a week in prepared meals. One that STARVES you because, hey, that’s the only way to lose it.
You don’t need any of that!
Answer this question honestly:
“Do you want to be someone who doesn’t struggle with their weight from now on and for the rest of their life?”
Of course you do. Who wouldn’t? It’s who I am right now. I do not struggle with my weight now nor will I ever. Forever. There’s a way to eat what you want–eating what everyone else is eating–and still lose weight or maintain your weight. I’ve been doing it unknowingly for years, and it’s so simple, it’s ridiculous. All you need to do is follow three simple rules. THREE simple rules, and you will be on your way to losing weight!
