Are you doing this? If not, WHY!?!? Don’t you know that you MUST know how many calories per day to lose weight or you will never have success!?!
Of course, I’m messing with you. You know that we here at the Half Meal Habit have no interest in trying to count how many calories in a day to lose weight you should be eating. We know that all you have to do is eat less. Eat less calories than you are burning. Still, if you want to know the details when it comes to number of calories vs. weight loss, we can have some fun with the math.
So, let’s get out our pencils and lick the tip (remember how they used to do that? WHY? It’s so gross!) and crunch some numbers.
Like I stated, you only need to be eating less than you are burning. The magic number is three thousand five hundred. That’s right, burn 3,500 calories and you lose a pound. Now, I have a question for you: How does that make you feel? If you know anything about exercise or have spent some time on a treadmill, you know that walking or running for about 30 minutes can burn about 300 to 500 calories.
This doesn’t seem to be such a bad thing, right? All you need to do is jump on the treadmill everyday for 30 minutes and you will lose one pound per week! Well, here comes the reality check.
You have to keep in mind that you need to burn 3500 calories OVER what you’re ingesting. So, if you are overeating by a couple hundred calories per day…you will be lucky to lose one pound per MONTH! Ugh, right? This is why so many people get frustrated. They count and count and try to eat less, but can’t do it. They work out to the point of getting burnt out, so they stop exercising. It’s a vicious cycle that needs to be broken.

Stop counting calories
All you’re doing is spending tons of time focusing on the number, realizing you’re over your limit at 2pm, then starving yourself for as long as you can until you wolf down ANYTHING you can get your hands on. Don’t do this to yourself anymore.
The hours you’re spending counting calories should be occupied by bettering yourself, focusing on your job, and spending time with your family.
Instead, do this:
Start eating less by following the Half Meal Habit. You’ll eat small meals all day long and never get hungry. You will end up eating a LOT less calories without the pain. Here’s a video that shows you how the diet works:
Stop working out so much
What?!? I’m serious. If you work out like I used to (P90X, Insanity, etc.) you end up getting so burnt out, you quit for a few weeks at a time. Not good. If you are running 45 minutes 4 days a week and you’re still not losing weight, you are probably at your wit’s end. The reason why runners don’t lose weight is they are not adding any kind of muscle. And you need it to burn fat.
STOP working out so much and destroying your psyche regarding working out, getting in shape, and getting stronger!
Instead, do this:
HIIT workouts. These are quick, full body workouts that will skyrocket your heart rate (cardio) and add lean muscle (resistance). We know that cardio AND resistance training is the ultimate fat burning combo. High Intensity Interval Training does both and in about 12 to 18 minutes per workout. Do this 3 to 4 times a week, and get ready to see the pounds run away!!!

So, do 4 moves. Do move 1 for 50 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, do move 2 for 50 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, do move 3 for 50 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, do move 4 for 50 seconds, rest for 10 seconds. Repeat 2 more or 3 more times, depending on your energy level.
So 12 to 18 minutes and you are DONE FOR THE DAY! It’s all laid out in the Half Meal Habit e-book (see end of post). There are variations and different moves you can do, but the main components to this workout is go hard for 50 seconds, rest for 10 seconds.
Stop being impatient
This is probably the thing you will struggle with the most. If you are following the Half Meal Habit, you are not going to lose 5 pounds a week. The average loss is 1 to 2 pounds per week. Now, EVERYONE is different, but if you are following the plan, you should lose at least 1 pound a week.
But you need to be patient and not get frustrated. You will not feel hungry, so you won’t be overindulging as much. Your stomach will shrink and you will feel full on a lot less food. This, too, will keep your “mistakes” of overeating even less damaging to your goals. The workouts will add that calorie burn, lean muscle mass, and general energy to your day.
Instead, do this:
Quit weighing yourself. Quit looking at yourself in the mirror. Follow the Habit, do the workouts, drink the right amount of water, and focus on your busy life. Forget about how much you weigh or how fat you look.
You are changing your lifestyle so you will inevitably lose the weight! You will fail and overeat once in a while, but overall, you will WIN! Yes, you will be saying this:
Have patience…Focus on eating those half meals. Feel how full you feel on the tiny amount of food you’re eating. Then, in about 100 days, weigh yourself. You’ll be blown away.
So if you’re wondering for you to lose weight how many calories per day you should be eating, understand that as long as it is less than you are burning, you will shed pounds. You don’t have to count calories to achieve this. Just follow the Half Meal Habit and win.
